DISTILLED: Backcountry and Bourbon

“Backcountry and Bourbon” – A Small Batch Bourbon Tasting and Avalanche Awareness presentation with CAIC (Colorado Avalanche Information Center), POW (Protect Our Winters), Keystone Ski Patrol, and Jim Beam. A portion of proceeds will benefit CAIC, POW, and Keystone Ski Patrol. Raffle ticket included with purchased ticket.
Join us for the third annual Distilled Speaker and Spirits Series on Saturday, January 12th!
We kick off the Warren Station Distilled Series with Backcountry and Bourbon. CAIC will enlighten the audience on backcountry safety and travel/avalanche awareness. Additionally, a Jim Beam whiskey expert will lead a presentation and tasting of a series of small batch bourbons. Explore the delicate balance of backcountry safety along with the history, aging process and recipes of these unique small batch bourbons. In addition Keystone Ski Patrol will also have a short presentation on their avalanche dog program. New this year, POW (Protect Our Winters) will give a presentation as well on how climate change is influencing the mountains, and what we can do to combat this very serious issue.
The five whiskeys that will be sampled are Jim Beam Black, Bookers, Knob Creek Rye, Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye, and Maker’s 46. The tasting will be presented by a Jim Beam whiskey expert, Oleg Shikverg who will teach attendees what to look for in a whiskey, and what makes each batch and style unique. In addition, craft whiskey cocktails will be available at the bar for purchase
Tickets include samples of all the bourbons, and a raffle ticket. There will be swag giveaways from some of the industry’s premier backcountry companies. Come out for a night of spirited education and help us kick off Distilled at Warren Station on Saturday, January 12th. Must be 21 to attend.
Aaron Parmet (CAIC Backcountry Expert) – Aaron will be giving a themed talked on Human Factors and decision making in the backcountry.
Joe Larson (Keystone Ski Patrol)- Joe is in his 10th season with Keystone Ski Patrol with previous experience in New Zealand and 4 years as volunteer patroller in Minnesota. He is a Colorado Avalanche Deployment certified dog handler and avalanche technician, an avalanche route leader, and Avalanche 2 certified.
