Getting to know your vendors is a great way to make your event memorable and create lasting relationships! This blog features a Q&A with professional photographer Simone Schiess.
Simone Schiess Photography
Not only is Simone one of our preferred photographers for private events & weddings, but she was also a bride at Warren Station in 2021! We sat down with Simone for a short Q&A about her business, background, and interests so couples could easily get to know our preferred vendors before meeting them in person.
What do you like most about photographing couples/events living in the mountains?
Oh, absolutely being outside and working with nature to our advantage is my favorite! Sun, snow, rain, clouds, wind, fire smoke – Colorado weather in the mountains is always a trip! But secretly, it makes for the BEST photographs, and I love the challenge that comes with it (staying positive is one of my best attributes!). Plus, events in the mountains naturally give you a sense of peace, warmth, and calm. You also just can’t beat having a natural backdrop like the mountains. The power of nature, baby!
What packages do you offer?
I offer 4-hour, 6-hour, 8-hour, and 10-hour packages. My husband Calvin also offers Videography! The 6/8/10 hour packages all come with an engagement session and there are plenty of ala carte options like rehearsal dinner coverage, film photography, and secondary photographer for full coverage of your celebration.
What is your photography style?
My style is best described as authentic, true, and vibrant. I like to give you a mix of candid, posed and candidly posed options in the final gallery. Doing an engagement shoot with me is a GREAT way to experience this prior to the wedding day! I also am highly sensitive to color, so when I edit your images, I ensure that the colors you picked for your flowers, linens, dresses, ties, etc. are all spot on with a sense of warmth to them.
What do you think sets you apart from other photographers?
I think my personality of being easy-going with the flow, positive, and knowing when to crank it up to herd the cats (hello family portraits!) makes me a fun companion on the wedding day and sets me apart. I’ll be your hype gal all day long, from the moment I walk in. I’ll also insist that you are hydrated and help out in any way possible to ensure the day goes smoothly.
What is your favorite place to photograph?
Loveland Pass :)
How long have you been in business?
Technically I’ve had a photography business for 10+ years (photographing rock climbing, fitness, fine art and events)! But specifically full wedding photography in Colorado, I’ve got 5 years under my belt :)
What got you into photography?
When I was 16, I received a point-and-shoot camera for my birthday. That year, I asked my AP High School art teacher if I could turn all the projects, she wanted us to do into Photo Projects. She was not thrilled about this but reluctantly said yes. From there I’ve been hooked! I went on to study Fine Art Photography, at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston MA. And it’s been all downhill from there!
Can you provide some fun facts/background about yourself?
- I got married at Warren Station and love it there!
- I love to rock climb, do yoga, ski, play pickleball, get outside and play!
- My husband Calvin and I have two dogs, Lulu & Osito, and a cat named Stevie Nicks.
- I’m Gluten Free – but don’t worry, I’ll eat the frosting off the wedding cake slices and be perfectly content!
- I love to get down on the dance floor and have perfected the art of photographing whilst dancing :)
